What is Building Brighter Futures?
Building Brighter Futures is a three-year programme for 10-18 year olds with cystic fibrosis, funded by BBC Children in Need. The programme will include talks, Q&As and workshops to give you practical skills to manage your CF alongside other interests. We hope to cover a broad range of topics from mental health and isolation, to coding, blogging and vlogging. Hear from Digital Youth Outreach Officer Bahar Mustafa to find out a little bit more about her role in the Building Brighter Futures Programme.

Creative Writing for Wellbeing
Our Building Brighter Futures programme for young people is running an exciting six-week ‘Creative Writing for Wellbeing’ online course starting this February. We will be inviting back Hephzibah Kaplan, an arts therapist with 20 years’ experience, to run the sessions.
Participants will be encouraged to think about how to manage their physical and mental health through creative writing and exploration. Each week, Hephzibah will work with participants using a variety of language and creative tools as a means to support young people with CF to express and reflect on their feelings to promote wellbeing. Last summer, we ran a six-week ‘Art for Wellbeing’ course that was very successful in bringing young people with CF together to engage in conversations with one another online using a video-call platform in a safe way, through creative exercises and activities.
To sign up to this course, contact Bahar Mustafa, Digital Youth Outreach Officer, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
This course takes place every Tuesday from 5.30-7pm, starting on 5 March with the last session on 9 April
“Google hangouts is great because we can all talk to each other and see each other. The facilitator was very helpful, and I don’t think anything would have worked without her. Hephzibah was lovely and inspiring, I loved making art with her!” young person with CF
“I think [she’s feeling] a little more positive having spoken to people who have the same challenges each day. This was her first time doing that - and good that those relationships built over the course duration” parent of a participant
Self-care, self-management and wellbeing
We will be inviting Chloe Kazantzis to facilitate a six-week programme that looks at goal setting and habit tracking as a strategy to make changes that last for young people with cystic fibrosis. Chloe lives with CF and is an active member of the Trust's Youth Advisory Group. This course aims to help you to maintain a demanding treatment schedule, learn how to find balance, and take control of your life beyond cystic fibrosis. This will also be a chance to share your experiences with other young people with CF, in a safe way, using a video calling platform.
For more information please contact our Digital Youth Outreach Officer, Bahar Mustafa, on email@example.com.
This six-week course starts on Monday 1 April, with the last session on Monday 13 May. There will also be an introductory meeting on Monday 25 March, which will allow participants to get to know each other and take part in some ice breakers and fun activities.
We will be recording some of our workshops and talks so that you can watch them later. Take a look at the recordings from our 'preparing for work' workshops below.
