How to include a gift in your will

Including a gift in your will is an incredible way to support our work and allows us to know we can continue to fight cystic fibrosis long into the future.

Ways to leave a gift

Whatever kind of gift you’re considering including, we are incredibly grateful for your support. Why not find out how your support can help change the lives for people with cystic fibrosis for long into the future?

There are a few different ways that you can include a gift in your will to the Trust.

1. Our gifts in wills team is here to assist with any questions you may have, and while we can’t provide advice, can send you through our gifts in wills enquiry pack and discuss the work of the Trust with you. Our team can be reached on 0203 795 2132 or by e-mail at giftsinwills@cysticfibrosis.org.uk.

2. Download our simple will-planning guide, which will take you through the steps of completing a will.

3. If you have already decided to include a gift to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the essential information to include is the name and address of the charity and the charity registration number. The information you need is:

Cystic Fibrosis Trust
One Aldgate
London
EC3N 1RE

Registered as a charity in England and Wales (1079049) and Scotland (SC040196).

I don’t have a will

If you don't already have a will, you need to find a solicitor in your area. In England and Wales, contact the Law Society on 020 7242 1222. In Scotland contact the Law Society of Scotland 0131 226 7411. In Northern Ireland contact the Law Society of Northern Ireland on 028 9023 1614.

I’ve already included a gift in my will

You may have already included a gift, in which case – thank you. We would be grateful if you would let us know you have by filling in our pledge form and returning it to:

Gifts in Wills department
One Aldgate
Second floor
London
EC3N 1RE

or by email to Michael Clark.

It helps us plan for the future and we also like to be able to personally thank such generous supporters, and keep them up to date with our work.

I’ve already written a will but would like to include a gift to the Trust

If you have already made a will, but now wish to include a gift to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, you can either consider revising your will to ensure it reflects your current wishes and any life changes, or if this is the only change you wish to make, you may decide to write a codicil. A codicil is an additional document to your Will, and we would recommend you seek professional legal advice before deciding the best route forward, and ensure that if you do write a codicil this takes note of your original Will and is stored with it.

We have provided answers to some frequently asked questions as well as providing an Estate pack which may help you to gather your thoughts before the will writing process. Whilst we can't provide you with legal advice, we can discuss with you the will writing process and answer any questions you may have about leaving a gift in your will to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Our Legacy Charter provides information on our legacy promises to you.

What are the different types of gift?

Your solicitor will advise you upon this, but there is more than one way to leave a gift in your will, depending on your personal circumstances and your wishes. You may wish to include a percentage of your Estate or the whole (residuary gift) or you may wish to leave a fixed sum (pecuniary gift). Remember that the value of a pecuniary gift is likely to decrease over time due to the effects of inflation, but to avoid this you can arrange to have your gift index-linked to the retail price index. Alternatively, you may wish to include a particular item which you own (specific gift).

Will my gift be liable for Inheritance Tax?

Your solicitor will be able to advise you on whether your Estate may be liable for Inheritance Tax and the taxable benefits of leaving a gift to charity. If you have any questions about including a gift in your will to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, please get in touch.
