According to the UK Cystic Fibrosis Registry's 2016 Annual Report, only half of those with cystic fibrosis will live to see their 47th birthday. Over the last 50 years, we have been committed to funding the cutting-edge research that has paved the way for the treatments that are available to people today. We are one of the largest funders of research into cystic fibrosis in the UK, and people with the condition are now living longer and healthier lives than every before.
As people with cystic fibrosis are living longer, complications such as CF-related diabetes and osteoporosis are becoming more prevalent, and there is more pressure on adult clinical services. We are therefore supporting greater investment in research projects and training clinicians to help people with cystic fibrosis live longer and healthier lives, unlimited by the condition.
Our wide range of research grants offers support to scientists at every stage in their careers, helping us to attract and retain the brightest and best scientific minds into a career in cystic fibrosis research.
